This is a great specimen of orpiment with realgar and quartz. It is a beautiful, large piece compared to ones that are seen from here. It has shimmer and beauty all over it. I love the mix of quartz with it, too.
Because I love to learn, I looked up some info on realgar and I liked what Minerals.net had to say...
Due to the instability of Realgar, specimens should be stored enclosed and covered to prevent their exposure to light. Occasional exposure to look at a specimen will not cause damage; only prolonged or repeated exposure will cause alteration.
Interesting facts : It is used in the manufacturing of fireworks, and was historically used as a red pigment.
Realgar contains arsenic, so please, if you handle it, after handling do wash your hands really well!
+++ So, to recap the realgar rules...store in the dark, wash hands, no licking. +++
