Larimar wood! Yep, you read that right, petrified wood with larimar. So petrified wood, as you probably know, forms when wood is buried quickly and protected from oxygen, allowing minerals to replace the wood's organic material over millions of years. Often times it's silicas replacing the wood fibers like opal, chalcedony or quartz. "Larimar is a type of pectolite or a rock composed largely of pectolite, an acid silicate hydrate of calcium and sodium. Pectolite is found in many locations, but larimar has a unique volcanic blue coloration, which is the result of copper substitution for calcium. " - Kloprogge, J.T., Wood, B.J. and Desk, S
So many types of silicates can replace wood, but this is something that is so rarely seen. These rare logs and pieces of the larimar wood have been saved for a long time and were sliced and polished recently. So exciting, right? Now we have these works of art from nature. Enjoy!
This slice is polished on the front and has natural texture on the back and has cool bark patterns on all edges.
